
During your journey around Naxos Island you will understand that has many villages around. All they have a cycladic style and its one is unique . We will try to give you some info about the most popular and what we can recommend you to see.
- Melanes : Only 6 km away from naxos town there is a village were you can find at location Flerio a half finished male statue, belonging to the 7th
century B.C., 6.4 metres tall, which was found in an olive grove.
- Sangri : Here you must visit the temple of Dimitra and also many churches ffrom 11 century and later
- Chalki : Nice
traditional village it is lovely place for a walking rount also here you
can have a look in how they distilled the traditional liquer Citro of
Naxos .
- Filoti : The biggest
village in Naxos Island with a nice square with trees under of them you
can have a coffe or drink and also you can try the well known cheese
kefalotyri of Naxos (Arseniko) made from sheep milk.
- Apeiranthos : The
most traditional village in Naxos , with three small museums , with big
tradition , with beautiful architecture , nice paves to walk , nice
stone buildings etc.
- Apollonas : At the north of the
island almost 43 km away from the Naxos Town there is a small fishing
village arount a small bay which is a nice place to visit and est
there and also visit Kouros (Apollonas) .
Near the village Apollonas and near to the entrance of an ancient mine, there is a half finished "Kouros" (male statue) lying on the ground, which has never been moved from this spot. The statue is 10.45 metres high and is dated at the beginning of the 6th century B.C. - Also we recomment you to vist the church of Protothroni Virgin (9th-10th cent.) between villages Halki and Moni which is the oldest Byzantine church in Naxos and in Balkanian, with important wall paintings. Mass has been held here since Early Christian times until today.
